There comes time when everyone wants to become someone great, someone their friends and relatives would be honored to know. I say it's time to start building that groundwork.

My name is Rebecca, and I am a writer. See the side page about my fanfiction to find a good read.

GET TO KNOW ME MEME
➝ Movies [4/10] ➝ The Amazing Spider-Man,  2012
Peter? I know things have been difficult lately and I’m sorry about that. I think I know what you’re feeling. Ever since you were a little boy, you’ve been living with so many unresolved things. Well, take it from an old man. Those things send us down a road… they make us who we are. And if anyone’s destined for greatness, it’s you, son. You owe the world your gifts. You just have to figure out how to use them and know that wherever they take you, we’ll always be here. So, come on home, Peter. You’re my hero… and I love you!

Spiderman Similarities

So far I’m seeing a few similarities between The Amazing Spiderman 2 and the old Spiderman 3. and that’s not really a good thing.

  1. Three villains in one film
  2. One of those villains seems to have been generally a ‘nice guy’ before getting in a freak accident that turns him into a barely-human villain.
  3. One of those villains is Harry Osborne/Goblin related
  4. The third villain is going to piss comic fans off by their portrayal in the movie not matching the comics.
  5. Peter letting fame get the best of him

How Maxwell Dillon became Electro

I saw some people whining about how Max being bitten by eels and turning into Electro in the new The Amazing Spiderman was dumb.

Look. In the comics….

While repairing a power line still connected to its spool, Max was struck by lightning. Instead of being killed, the freak accident caused a mutagenic change in his nervous system, allowing him to generate and control vast amounts of electricity. (via Marvel.com)

Dillon found himself transformed into a living electrical capacitor, powered by the micro-fine rhythmic muscle contractions that normally regulate body temperature. (via Marvel.wiki.com)

So going to fix a busted line, being electrocuted, and then falling into a tank of undoubtedly biologically altered electric eels? Sounds like a good movie plan to me.

How The Super Bowl Spiderman Trailer Should Happen Tomorrow

Commercials come and go.

A commercial begins.

The stadium goes dark, all lights out or only emergency lights remain, screens goes dark.

Electro’s voice over as the screens begins to fizzle- “Soon the world will know what it’s like to be without power…. without hope… without-“

The screens comes on to an image of Spiderman falling. Electro’s voiceover finishes “- Spiderman!”

Lights in the stadium flash back on as a brief fight scene montage thing happens in the trailer.

Spiderman 2 trailer plays through as planned and finishes.

The Super Bowl Commercials continue uninterrupted, starting with the commercial it cut off.

do you ever think about how Captain George Stacy and Peter Parker’s relationship would have gone if Stacy hadn’t died?

He’d have been so stupidly protective of him. like ‘no you listen to me. you stop running into dangerous fights. i cant have you bleeding all over my floor. think about gwen. think about your aunt, stupid kid. shut up and stop whining, i’m just using disinfectant. seriously. such a dumb kid. why’d it have to be you? no i’m not arresting you, but i might if you keep doing this to me.’

The Amazing Spider-Man: Flash Thompson (Mild Spoilers)

batmanspanties:

One of the great things this film did was its treatment of Flash Thompson as the “school bully”.

While Flash Thompson is certainly a bully I would have to say his arc in this movie was one of my many favorite things.

His scene with Peter in the hallway in the aftermath of Uncle Ben’s death was easily one of my top five favorite moments.

What I really love about this scene is that this is after Peter completely humiliated him in the school gym. Not that Flash didn’t deserve it, but here’s this guy that you’ve made a point to push around. This same guy calls you out and completely humiliates you in a gym full of students.

Perhaps it’s because you ate a healthy portion of humble pie, maybe it was because you experienced first hand what it’s like to tear someone to shreds in front of an audience and did not like it one bit. Whatever the reason, this same guy just lost his uncle and father figure.

For those that don’t know, Flash Thompson’s story in the comics has him dealing with an alcoholic and abusive father, this would explain his bullying habit (explain, not excuse). So if anyone understands daddy/father figure issues, it’s Flash.

So I find it so poignant that Flash is the one to initiate conversation, not to mock but to extend condolences. When Peter snaps and violently shoves him against the locker, Flash instead of showing anger or defense tells him that he gets it and “it’s ok”.

How wonderful is that?

Not only is Flash a side character in this film but he’s still a character with depth and a small arc within this film. It is my suspicion that this might have to do with the fact that plans are in motion for a Venom spin-off film and rumors that Flash will be the new host are abundant. So maybe this was done in preparation of that but whether this is true or not, it works so well in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Later on, once Peter has made peace with his uncle’s death towards the end of the film, Flash has not burned that olive branch that he extended to Peter in that hallway.

He playfully shoves him and they have a funny little moment where Peter compliments Flash’s Spider-Man t-shirt.

Out of the many things The Amazing Spider-Man did right, I think it’s treatment of Flash Thompson was one of the best because your one dimensional stereotypical school bully gets stale after a while.
